Lignum Vitae, The Most Elegant Flower

First plant of my blog should be the one I love most... 'Lignum Vitae' or 'Kaew Jao Jom' (แก้วเจ้าจอม) in Thai is always my favorite plant due to the beauty combination of colours and the elegant look.

'Lignum Vitae' is a national flower of Jamaica and native to the Caribbean and the northern coast of South America.

This plant first seen in Thailand in King Rama V reign as The King brought it from Indonesia.

'Lignum Vitae', listing one of the 'endangered species' in Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, is slow growing, reaching about 6-12 m. in height with a trunk diameter of 60 cm. The blue flowers have five petals which yield a bright yellow-orange fruit with red flesh and black seeds.

This one in my garden blooms all year round...
