A sweet fragrance of Plumeria always bring back my memory of the beach I’ve visited, especially Hua Hin where I’ve first known this plant since I was young.
Plumeria or Frangipani, usually called ‘Lantom’ or ‘Leelawadee’ (ลีลาวดี) in Thai, is native to Central America but widely spread to all tropical areas of the world.
In Thailand, Plumeria becomes more and more popular during the past ten years. While hundreds of species are listed, the popular one is ‘Singapore Obtusa’ – all year blooming white blossoms with small bright yellow center and evergreen glossy leaves. This type of Plumeria flower is eatable.
I found that the taste of deep-fried battered white Plumeria (like Japanese Tempura) was amazingly delicious!
